My Passion
I specialize in helping people transform and thrive during change. Whether change is occurring to you (by happenstance or by design) or you are recognizing the need to create change in your life, I would love to help you create the life you desire. My primary focus is on helping others transform and create joy in their lives.
My Approach
The central idea in my approach is that people are not “broken”. Everyone makes the best choices they can, based on their experiences and life situation. However, over time those choices and the resulting coping mechanisms may hold you back from growing and reaching your goals.
I am here to help clients reach the goals they set for themselves. My job is to help clients identify new choices that match their values. Together we will work to create movement in your life towards your stated values and goals.
My theoretical approach is eclectic. I am most strongly influenced by the work of Carl Rogers and his Person-Centered approach to therapy. I use a lot of mindfulness techniques, such as those found in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I have training in Trauma Informed approaches such as EMDR. Since I do not adhere to a single theoretical approach, I use a variety of techniques that I think will benefit individual clients. I do not have a “one size fits all” mentality when it comes to counseling.
My Background
I grew up moving around the country. As an adult, I lived and worked in San Diego, CA, Prescott, AZ, St. Louis, MO and now in the Clearwater, Fl area. I received my first Master’s in Psychology at San Diego State University in 1996 and my second Master’s in Counseling Psychology at Prescott University in 2007. I have a background in both clinical research and direct practice. I worked in hospital, residential treatment facilities, and behavioral health agencies prior to starting my own private practice in 2011. I moved to a completely online practice in 2021.
Currently, I am a Licensed Profession Counselor (LPC) in the State of Missouri, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the State of Illinois, and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the State of Florida. I am also a member of the American Counseling Association (APA).
Professional Development
I am also a MSAPCB Qualified Supervisor and a PLPC supervisor for the state of Missouri. If you are looking for substance abuse credentialing supervision or licensure supervision, please contact me. I only supervise a few people at a time but I may have an opening soon.
